Reflections from a recent trip to Zambia

I recently returned from a trip to Zambia where I got to walk through our buildings for the first time. I had not been on the ground since we began construction, so I was eager to see the progress in person.
As I toured each building for the first time, I was filled with excitement and gratitude. I began to envision how each of the spaces would be filled in the coming months. I could see our programs coming to life.
Imagining the Future of Our New Home
In our preschool classroom, (which is—somehow fittingly—the brightest room in the house) I could picture our babies toddling around, maybe taking their first steps, potty training, and hearing Bible stories for the first time.
I imagined how we will soon set up the counseling room—and how that space, set away from the bustling activity in the rest of the house, will be a place of calm and healing for our girls.
I made my way across the property—walking where there will soon be crops of tomatoes and spinach and corn, grown by the families in our ag program.
I stepped into the office building and mapped out in my mind where desks and workstations would go—and felt so grateful that our staff will have this designated space to work and plan and strategize how to further TKP’s mission.
Looking Back on God’s Faithfulness
Back here in the States, as I consider our upcoming move, I am so thankful for God's provision.
Our staff and our girls have been living on a rental property that has, for the most part, served us well in our first years of existence. For better or worse, this place we’re preparing to leave will always be the setting for the launching of The Kukhoma Project, the place that our first 14 babies came home from the hospital, and the land on which our ag program was birthed. God has done some really beautiful things here.
And when I think about our new property, I am so thankful to get to be part of the opportunity God’s given TKP. I think about the minds on my team that worked to design each building so intentionally through the lens of our girls and programs—from flooring durability and aesthetics to the external, garage-style door to the pantry which will allow our operations team to unload groceries efficiently without disturbing what's going on inside the house.
Feeling Grateful for YOU
And, finally, I think about you. I think about every donor who has helped fund this project, sacrificially giving of their resources to make this vision a reality for our girls and staff. Every block that’s been laid, every pipe of plumbing, every window and door that’s been installed has been funded by generous donors like you. I hope that, by now, you know how beyond grateful we are for your support of this project, and ultimately, what God is doing through TKP in Zambia.
Our prayer for these buildings is, yes, to be places of healing, restoration, and empowerment for our girls and their families; but more than anything, that these buildings would be places where the light of Christ dwells. We want every girl, baby, visitor, partner, official, service provider, and staff member to experience God and His goodness every time they set foot on our property. That’s why we exist—and it’s the heartbeat of this organization. This is God’s ministry and these are His buildings, constructed with funds He’s providing and built according to His divine timing. And we trust that He’s going to use these buildings for the good of so many, and for His glory.
Thank you for being part of what God is doing at TKP—we can’t wait to see all He has in store for these buildings.
