In 2022, The Kukhoma Project set bold goals for what’s ahead and achieved milestones that we have dreamed of for years. Girls reintegrated into their homes and communities, new girls moved into the TKP house, we hired new staff members in Zambia, one of our graduates returned to intern with us as she prepares for college, and we became leaders in community outreach to change the narrative around gender-based violence.

With your support, The Kukhoma Project is helping girls find restoration and empowerment, babies grow into joyful children, and families find a path forward after trauma. We are looking back with gratitude, and looking forward with hope, faith, and excitement for all that is ahead.

2022 BY THE NUMBERS

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN ZAMBIA

AT THE TKP HOUSE

Our girls and babies are learning and growing in Zambia. In 2022 we:

  • Hired a new house mother and promoted another house mom to house manager

  • Continued operating a successful agriculture program to help families find economic independence

  • Launched a partnership with a new counseling firm

  • Hosted our first local fundraiser to engage our community in Zambia

  • Celebrated 7 girls who completed vocational trade programs and 1 girl who completed grade 12

SERVING OUR COMMUNITY

We have been working hard to expand our reach in the community. In 2022 we:

  • Launched our partnership with Chongwe Hospital to help provide guidance and support for victims of gender-based violence

  • Served an estimated 600 victims of gender-based violence through the partnership, one-third of whom were pregnant from sexual abuse

  • Prepared to launch formalized trauma therapy at the community level in 2023

  • Became a government-appointed representative of gender-based violence organizations on multiple committees and forums, and were selected to participate in initiatives and campaigns petitioning legal reform

  • Participated in the “16 Days of Sensitization” campaign alongside national leaders to educate rural communities about the importance of reporting abuse cases
